Primavera draws from classic and contemporary bolero traditions of Latin America, particularly of Mexico. The Spanish music of New Mexico is also an important part of our repertoire. Primavera also performs music originating from other countries and in other languages.

  • Pat Candelaria

Pat is a guitarist and a vocalist in the band.  He is devoted to learning the complicated styles of Latin music and is a composer as well.  Patrick and his wife Diana have two grown children and live in the Albuquerque north valley where they grew up and have their family roots.

  • Bobby Espinoza

Bobby is a native of Taos and grew up in a musical family.  He is a linguist (Spanish, French and English) and a teacher at a local high school.  His skill as a guitarrón player and his deep knowledge of mariachi and bolero music are critical to Primavera’s development.

  • Tina Candelaria

Tina is a vocalist and percussionist.  As a former language teacher she has a love of languages speaking Spanish, French, and English and to a lesser extent, Portuguese.  She has a long-standing affection for the music of her parents’ generation.  She also composes music and lyrics.

  • John Guillen

John is the newest member of Primavera and our violinist.  He is a native of Albuquerque with family roots in the Española valley.  John began playing the violin in the fourth grade and has never stopped.   He comes to Primavera with a deep background in musical theater having acted and stage-managed a number of local theater productions.  He also wrote the violin music for two of those productions.  Before joining Primavera he played with four different local mariachi groups.   His skill and enthusiasm are a welcome contribution to the group.
